Project Overview
Outline of Research Area
The research area aims at developing system software technologies as well as related systems to be used for high performance computing in the post generations of the Japanese national supercomputer K. Several research and development has been conducted for system software enabling us to exploit maximum efficiency and reliability from supercomputers composed of general purpose many-core processors as well as accelerators including GPGPU form the second half of 2010’s to 2020’s.
In addition to the system software such as programming languages, compilers, runtime systems, operation systems, communication middleware, and file systems, application development support systems and ultra-large data processing systems are the targets for research and development. The 14 projects were adopted from 2010 to 2012, and the period of each project is five and half years. The total budget from 2010 to 2017 is about 60M USD.
The projects in post-peta CREST are expected to play a role bridging to post-petascale and exascale computing through system software.
Collaboration with SPPEXA project
Under the framework of the “Software for Exascale Computing (SPPEXA)” program which is implemented by DFG (Germany), JST (Japan) and ANR(France) agreed to support trilateral projects for high performance computing. Some of post-peta CREST projects have been awarded as a SPPEXA partner supported by JST.
